Well, the answer is that solar power is nothing new!

And, the windmills? The term solar energy or solar power often is not limited to power from the sun. The terms can typically embrace both sun power and wind power! Some people even include the use of power from the advancing and receding tide in these terms.

So, as the old Dutch windmills remind us, solar power...power from wind and sun...has been around for a long time.

By the way, solar power is not new to the United States either.

If you grew up in the farm country of the midwest or the ranch country of the west, you probably saw windmills in the fields and pastures.

Why? Two reasons:

• The energy was FREE!
• The energy was AVAILABLE!

Large parts of the United States waited a long time for commercial electricity to be delivered to them in a dependable way, so they depended on solar (wind) power for their water.

Today, electricity is very dependable and getting more expensive ... almost on a daily basis!

What can we do? Are there other choices available? Will we hammer the earth with our carbon footprints if we use other choices?
